Young children may need to be offered new foods many times before they accept them. Help families and caregivers teach children to learn to eat new foods with six easy steps - shop with your child; cook with your child; serve a variety of foods; have fun with foods; encourage 'take a bite'; and don't give up. Recipe for Rainbow Pasta Salad and other kid friendly foods are included on this sheet.

"This handout is wonderful for parents with young children. It particularly applies to children aged 6 months up to 8 years. It encourages eating a variety of fruits and vegetables and sends positive messages about picky eating and how to work through it. Overall there are 6 helpful strategies discussed in this handout; if the first 1 or 2 strategies do not work, parents can remain hopeful. New Foods May Take Time is a helpful handout for parents regardless of the amount of time the messages have to be explained. The strategies are explained fully and are easy to understand. It could be provided to pediatric offices or used as a handout at workshops, grocery stores, or farmers’ markets, among other uses."
