Babies are ready for their first spoonfuls of solid foods when they are about 6 months old and show signs of readiness. Share this card with families and caregivers and give them key tips as they begin offeriing solid foods to baby, including:
- Offer iron-rich foods, including meats and fortified infant cereal.
- Use responsive feeding when using a spoon, and watch for signs of fullness. Do not feed cereal in a bottle.
- Keep food safe for babies.
- Watch for signs of readiness for self-feeding, and offer a variety of textures.
- Start routines for mealtime, and eat together!
