Help parents make a plan for breastfeeding. Use a checklist of things to learn during pregnancy to help expecting parents prepare before their baby is born. Encourage breastfeeding early and often, skin-to-skin contact and talking to a lactation consultant at the hospital or birthing center. Offer tips for what to expect during baby’s first few weeks, at 4 to 6 weeks, at 3 months, at 6 months and beyond to help parents understand normal baby behavior and encourage continued breastfeeding.
