Take me to the market with you!
Visit your local farmers' market this summer with your child. The market is full of color, activity, fresh fruits and vegetables. When your child sees you and others getting excited about fresh fruits and vegetables, they will want to eat some too.
This full color booklet offers 10 simple activities to do with your child in the market. Many of the activities promote learning colors, new words, shapes, sizes, and how to count - "what color is the carrot?" "how many cucumbers are in the basket?" "radishes are little. tomatoes are round." Activities also help child to become more familiar with fruits and vegetables - "ask me to find a certain fruit or vegetable." "let's play 'I spy with little eyes'." "tell me how we will cook and eat the vegetables." Children like to eat the foods they are familiar with.
The second half of the booklet offers simple cooking ideas such as baked apple slices, frozen berry cups, roasted veggies, veggie quesadilla, summer fruit bowls with yogurt, 4 different farmers' market pizzas, and raw veggies and avocado yogurt dip. Ways for small children to help in the kitchen are offered with recipes such as rinse the berries, spread veggies on a baking sheet, add fruit to the bowl, put toppings on the pizza and more.
Booklet also includes lots of helpful tips that promote the MyPlate concepts and the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, Copyright 2019.
